Electronic Magnetic Pulse (EMP) is defined as a very brief burst of electromagnetic energy that can be natural (e.g., lightening, solar storm) or man-made, in which the purpose is to disable the electrical network needed for operating computers, drones, navigation, etc.; either of which can disrupt electronic communications as well as equipment. This phenomenon of disabling vehicles and electronics is an element that often shows up in close encounters of the 2nd kind.
In November 1957 (interestingly and possibly coincidentally hours after the launch of Sputnik 2), local farmworkers near Levelland, Texas reported seeing a fast moving “blue streak of light” coming in their direction which seemingly affected their truck’s electrical system. A college student within the area had a similar encounter and had also reported that his car had suddenly stopped operating. While he was checking the engine to determine what was wrong, he reported seeing an “egg shaped object” that was approximately 100 feet in length. A local law enforcement officer had also reported seeing an object that was similar to a “brilliant red sunset” pass over his patrol car which had affected the vehicle’s performance.
Without doubt, something was witnessed by over a dozen residents within the vicinity, several of which also reported an EMP affect upon their vehicles.
